Description
MohanThal is a traditional Indian Mithai with a rich flavor and melt-in-the-mouth texture of slow-roasted besan (Gram Flour) in pure desi ghee (Clarified Butter) and sugar.
Mohan Thal (Besan Barfi) is considered a favorite of the Hindu God Lord Krishna. The sweet gets its name from him, as “Mohan” is one of Krishna’s several names. In Pushtimarg temples, Mohanthal is an essential part of the bhog offerings.
To make Mohanthal, Besan (Gram Flour) is mixed with ghee and sugar, along with various other spices and nuts. Besan is slow-cooked into a dense fudge flavored with saffron and nuts.
Mohanthal is one of the must-have Mithais during festivals such as Diwali and Krishna Janmashtami, and it’s often offered as prasad, a sacred offering at temples.
